ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the notifications of Election Commiss
ion of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad High Court (IHC) for preventing elected representativ
es of people from launching election campaign.
PTI spokesp
erson Naeemul Haq, on behalf of PTI Chief Imran Khan has filed a petition against ECP notification through Babar Awan Advocate in registrar office.
The petitioner has prayed the court to nullify all three notifications issued by the ECP.
It was further said in the petition that all political
parties have a right of holding political rallies and public meetings as enshrined in the constitut
ion of Pakistan.
ECP notifications are based on malafide intent and clear violat
ion of basic human rights in which only opposition is being barred from holding public rallies and meetings.
ECP and DG elections have been made respondents in the petition.
Babar Awan while talking to media said that not preventing the government ministers and chief ministers and preventing
only the opposition from holding public meetings and making contacts is sheer breach of Article 199 of the constitution.
PTI spokesp
erson NaeemUl Haq said PM is holding public rallies by misusing public funds lavishly and he is announcing development funds and in this situation preventing only opposition from holding public meetings is based on evil intention.
